Case Study

HALBEATH INTERCHANGE REMEDIATION

Originally developed as a Class 4-use manufacturing facility by Hyundai Semi-Conductor Europe, the investment cost at Halbeath Interchange approached a reported £1bn. Despite its sale to Motorola (later Freescale) in 2000, the site was never operational and it had remained unoccupied since 1997.”

Charles Shepherd, Managing Director

Upon acquiring the 150 acre site, we undertook a detailed viability assessment, which determined that there was no viable re-use for the main manufacturing plant and specialist contractors were brought in to demolish the facility and remediate the land.

This ongoing project requires careful decommissioning of over 750,000 square feet of highly specialised buildings and infrastructure including major clean room capability, central utilities and plant rooms.

Our master planning exercise for the site is currently in development with Fife Council, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to create a long term sustainable centre to accommodate the needs of industry and the local area.
